Bread is for sharing with friends. Amish Friendship Bread

This recipe for bread has been prepared in our communities for many generations. We are proud to share it with you and hope that you will enjoy it and share with others, perhaps at a sit-down meal or something like that.

Before you start here are some important notes:

  • Don’t use a metal bowl or spoon for mixing.
  • If air develops in bag, let it out.
  • It is normal for the mix to babble and ferment.
  • If batter is not passed on your baking day, be sure to tell them their start day.
  • You can always keep a bag for yourself and begin the process all over again. Some say it freezes well.

Day 1 - Day you receive the mix

Day 2, 3, 4, 5 – Mush bag
